In Bloom

In 2016 the Britain in Bloom South West awards ceremony was held in the lovely town of Taunton, where Weston-super-Mare took home gold. Weston in Bloom, which is funded and organized by Weston-super-Mare Town Council, won a gold in its category for the fifth time.

Thanks go to all the volunteers, staff, councillors and all who are involved, for their hard work, dedication and commitment throughout the year.

Weston-super-Mare also received many It’s Your Neighbourhood awards.

What is Weston in Bloom?

Each year Weston-super-Mare enters into the national competition “Britain in Bloom” which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society. This national campaign is all about improving your local environment and each year Weston-super-Mare will be assessed on:

  • Horticultural Achievement
  • Community Participation
  • Environmental Responsibility

Weston-super-Mare enters into the local South West region Campaign and has won the Gold Award for the past five years.

More information on the different stages of the competition can be found Royal Horticultural Society website.

How can I get in involved?

Weston in Bloom is always taking on new projects and therefore is always looking for new volunteers to help out when they can. Whether you have been a keen gardener for many years or just looking for something different, Weston in Bloom is a friendly group of people who would be thrilled to have you on board! We are not asking you to dedicate all your time, just a couple of hours a week would make a huge difference.

If you would like to volunteer, or for more information, please contact us.

What is the It’s Your Neighbourhood Campaign and can I join?

The ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood Campaign’ allows Community Groups to get involved with Britain in Bloom. It’s all about improving the area you live in, similar to Britain in Bloom, however on a smaller scale. Some examples are:

  •  Turning a derelict piece of land into a community space for all to share.
  • An allotment group growing produce to give back to the community
  • An 'Edible Community Garden' which encourages people to learn more about growing their own food and working together as a team.
  • Brightening up the street you live in by working with your neighbours to introduce hanging baskets and other floral displays.

More information can be found at the Royal Horticultural Society website.

Each year Weston in Bloom organises the entries for the town’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards’.
