Freedom granted to 40 Commando Royal Marines

The Royal Marines marched into town on Saturday 21st June. Thousands of people lines the streets of Weston to see the Freedom of the Town granted by the Mayor Cllr Roz Willis to 40 Commando, Royal Marines who are based in Somerset. The Freedom is the highest honour a town can grant to a person or organisation and was granted in a colourful ceremony attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset and the Brigadier General of the Royal Marines in Princess Royal Square. After the ceremony 500 Marines led by the Royal Marines Band exercised their freedom to march through the town with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, banners flying and drums beating.
