After a year of supporting the need for a new station at Weston-super-Mare the Weston Super Quilters presented a cheque for £1500 to the local RNLI
Weston Super Quilters are a group of enthusiastic and very skilled people who share their interest in developing impressive quilts. They meet regularly to discuss and advise members of the techniques and to show the results.
Each summer they hold a major exhibition in Weston’s Winter Gardens when the hall is full of incredible work. The quilts are full of imagination and clever design and the exhibition is open to the public. In August they were visited by Charlotte Conroy, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Weston-super-Mare. Charlotte presented the prizes for the best quilts.
For 2014 they decided they would use their activities to raise money for Weston RNLI and its appeal to raise money towards the cost of a desperately needed new lifeboat station. Selling tickets to their events
and from other activities they raised £1,500.
On Monday night they presented the cheque to Glyn Hayes the volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer for Weston-super-Mare. In accepting this he said;’ This is an extraordinarily generous donation. It will certainly help as we struggle to meet our target. As the RNLI we can only do what we do in saving lives at sea, because of the generosity of people like you.’
