Weston-super-Mare Town Council, having had a track record of delivering community events during the summer, wished to do so again this year and in doing so enlisted the YMCA Somerset Coast to deliver an event for Young People and families. The ‘Summer Starter’ event will take place on the 9th August in Grove Park and will be open to the public from 10am.
The planned activities include a Bouncy Castle Assault Course, Multi-Sports, Football Target-shooting, Face-Painting, Games Tent, Climbing Wall, Segways, Bottle Sculpture and Dance Workshops.
The Live entertainment will showcase local young people s’ talent and playing live will be bands Interlude and Momentum, the ‘Sing Out’ choir, Ethan Crosse and duo Kerry-Paige and George. There will also be performances from the Noreen Nolan Dance Academy and the Weston-Super-Nova Cheerleaders.
The YMCA has set up the Event to provide young people the opportunity to see and try a wide range of entertainment and activities. This will hopefully give young people and families a better understanding of the activities and opportunities available to them throughout the Summer Holidays with a number of different providers.
The event aims to give young people the opportunity to challenge themselves and try something new whilst also giving local young people the opportunity to showcase their talents.
Any profits from the day will go back into providing quality opportunities for young people in the area. The Town Council has put over £1,000 into supporting the event and local organisations working with young people have been excellent in ensuring that the resources go as far as possible to ensure that many young people have an exciting and fun day.
The Mayor, Councillor Roz Willis who will be attending the event said “The Town Council is proud to support its young people, and we are delighted to be part of this event. We have enjoyed a long working relationship with our youth services providers and look forward to our continued partnership with the YMCA and it’s work. I am sure the late Councillor Tony Probert would be very proud as former Youth Services Champion for the Town Council” Councillor Roz Willis, Town Mayor of Weston-super-Mare
