The holiday season in Weston-super-Mare is about to get brighter, as Weston Town Council and Weston BID are thrilled to announce details of this year’s Christmas lights switch-on event 2nd December Starting from 10.00am for eat:Festival and 5.00pm to 5.30pm for the switch on events.

In Weston Town Council’s survey, the community voiced they wanted a Christmas market to coincide with the spectacular Christmas lights switch-on. In response, we are proud to introduce the eat: Weston Christmas Edition, which will take place on the same day and at the same time as the lights switch-on. While you might be accustomed to finding eat:Weston at the Italian Gardens or the Winter Gardens, this year, the culinary delights will be available at both locations.

Santa Claus himself, known for his hearty appetite, will be on hand to meet and greet all the well-behaved children.

The switch-on will be held on the stage by the Christmas tree at the Italian Gardens, or under the welcoming canopy of the Sovereign Centre if the weather takes a turn.

The Sovereign Centre is offering free parking on the day after 3:00 PM.

This year carries added significance as it marks the final appearance of our current Christmas lights display. In 2024, a brand-new lighting design will be unveiled, and Weston Town Council is keen to hear your thoughts and ideas for the future. Your feedback in 2019 led to the expansion of the Christmas lights across the town at no additional cost, and we are excited to explore what possibilities await in 2024.

The festivities will also feature performers from panto at the Blakehay Theatre. Weston Brass will provide a musical backdrop to the countdown along with Choir groups and the honour of the lights switch on will go to the winner of the Mayor’s children’s Christmas card design competition, in collaboration with Weston Museum.

The Mayor Cllr Ciaran Cronnelly said “This year our Christmas light switch on is going to be extra magical and an event not to miss. We’ve heard your feedback about wanting a Christmas market alongside the switch on and I’m delighted that this year we’ve partnered with eat:Festival and Weston Bid to make this a reality.

I’d encourage everyone to come along and watch our magical town become even brighter as we start the festivities.

This year I’ll be launching a Christmas card competition for 7-11 year olds and the talented winner will be the star of the event as they help to turn on our Christmas lights.”

Join us on this special day with minced pies as we light up Weston-super-Mare with the spirit of the season. It’s a time to come together as a community and embrace the magic of Christmas.
