Weston-super-Mare Town Council has resolved not to become a formal member of the Council of Sanctuary movement.
The decision follows detailed consideration of the Finance and General Purposes Committee's recommendation, public engagement feedback, and the findings of the Council's Task & Finish Group.
The Leader of Council – Councillor Ciaran Cronnelly said:
"Weston-super-Mare is a welcoming town with a proud record of diversity, supported by many community groups, charities, and individuals. While the Council has no statutory role in areas such as migration or housing, we remain absolutely committed to promoting harmony, inclusivity, and cross-cultural understanding across our town. Our Anti-Racism Champion continues to play a vital role in ensuring good community relations, and we reaffirm our ongoing anti-racism pledge."
