The Ex-Mayor and Mayoress of Weston-super-Mare, Councillor Mark and Mrs Estelle Canniford recently presented a cheque to ‘In Charley’s Memory’, their chosen charity. During their two-year term of office (2019 – 2021), they raised the magnificent sum of £16,181.08. The presentation was made at ‘In Charley’s Memory’ offices in Highbridge. The donation was raised by collections at Civic events and mainly from proceeds of the Ex-Mayor’s Ball held in October 2021.

In Charley’s Memory provides counselling, in Somerset and surrounding areas, for children and young people between the ages of 11 and 25, and 26 and over who are experiencing mental health difficulties. It advances education and knowledge surrounding Mental Health within learning environments and wider communities.

Councillor Mark Canniford said ‘I’m so grateful to everyone who attended the ‘Ex-Mayors Ball’ and supported me to raise an incredible amount of money over the two years for this worthy and hardworking charity. Many have struggled during this time of COVID and I feel the money raised will support young people as they have their own recovery to do off the back of the pandemic.
