After the high winds those of us who love trees and the environment felt the loss as we watched some of our oldest tress fall and lose limbs in the storms. Help is at hand with a new collaboration group forming for the protection of trees and tree planting in response to the climate crisis.

Weston-super-Mare Town Council, Weston-super-Mare Civic Society and SEE MONSTER Environmental Think Tank invite you to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Weston Tree Group. The aim of the group is to bring together as many organisations, groups and individuals who are involved, or would like to be involved in planting projects throughout the town. The idea is to collaborate in improving canopy cover, connectivity between sites and biodiversity gain across Weston and beyond.

We hope to get an overview of what is already happening, by asking those already involved in planting projects to give a brief description of what they are doing, and then we will open up the meeting for people to share any creative plans and projects that they may have or may need help with.

We will also discuss the fantastic opportunity being made available to Weston, where the SEE MONSTER project will be donating all of the plants in their Garden Lab installation and an urban garden that can be created with them.

The meeting will be facilitated by Becky Walsh and the members of the panel currently are:

Cllr Dot Agassiz – Vice chair WSMTC Climate Crisis Working Group

Steve Clark – WSMTC Tree Consultant

David Agassiz – Weston-super-Mare Civic Society

Lisa Clemens – Weston in Bloom

Cllr John Crockford-Hawley – North Somerset Council and Weston-super-Mare Town Council

James McCarthy – North Somerset Tree Officer

Rosie Walker – Woodland Trust Regional External Affairs Officer

Emily Burnell – Woodland Trust Queen’s Green Canopy Woods Project Coordinator

Alex Stone – Forest of Avon Trust Deputy Executive Director

In addition to this, there will be participants from the SEE MONSTER Environment Think Tank joining in, as well as any interested members of the public.
