Weston Town Council is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Mayor. Councillor Ciaran Cronnelly, accompanied by his wife Katherine as the Mayoress. Councillor John Crockford-Hawley will serve as the Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor of Weston-super-Mare assumes a role deeply rooted in tradition and ceremony, symbolising the town’s connection to its rich history. Adorned with the distinguished insignia of the mace, robes, and chains of office, the Mayor represents the bridge between past and present.
The Mayor’s role is strictly non-political, focusing on representing every section of the community.
Mayor Cronnelly brings experience and a passion for community service to his new role. Having lived in Weston-super-Mare for the past seven years with his wife Katherine, the Mayoress, the couple considers the town their home.
Prior to assuming the mayoral position, Mayor Cronnelly dedicated his career to the charity sector, working to provide front-line advice to individuals facing challenging circumstances.
He first became a councillor in 2019 when he was elected to represent the ward of Winterstoke on both North Somerset Council and Weston Town Council.
The Mayor said “I see the opportunity as Mayor to showcase what’s brilliant about Weston – and how the people here are brilliant too. That’s going to be one of my key priorities and the Town Council is involved in lots of these brilliant things too so there’s plenty to showcase”.
