Following ongoing discussions and collaborative working with both Weston Town Council and the recently formed Weston and Planting Tree Group, North Somerset Council’s Tree Officer would like to meet in Weston-super-Mare on the morning of Friday 8th July at 9:30am with everyone interested in the planting and positioning of trees. The plan to walk areas of Weston and record locations where there is the potential for planting new street trees sharing our combined local knowledge. North Somerset Council Tree Officers will be available to look at the suitability of locations and begin to address the complexities and challenges with highway planting.

Over the last 12 years North Somerset Council have found it difficult to plant replacement trees in hard surfaces of the highway when we have had cause to remove trees, due to a lack of resources. However, working with Weston Town Council, money has been made available to enable new planting of highway trees. This is great news as we can begin to progress our plans for the regreening of Weston’s highway network and increase the overall canopy cover which will also begin to fulfil the objectives in North Somersets Green Infrastructure Strategy”.

If you would like to come along to help plot locations for potential new trees, please meet us at 9:30am by the BT building at the eastern end of the Boulevard; from here, we will split into groups and start walking the streets. Maps shall be provided but if you have a clipboard, please do bring it along.

We look forward to seeing you on the 8th July; if you have any questions or can make the meeting, please contact us at Rewilding.Volunteering@n-somerset.gov.uk
