Our Volunteers’ Week 2026
Stories Behind the Stories
We’re shining a spotlight on the incredible volunteers who help bring our Museum to life!
Their passion, knowledge, and dedication help preserve and share the stories that make our town unique. From welcoming visitors and supporting events, to caring for collections and helping uncover local history, their contribution is invaluable!
Thanks to their hard work, the Museum remains a place where residents and visitors can connect with the people, places, and moments that have shaped our community.
Take a look at this video to meet some of the amazing volunteers behind the Museum and discover what inspires them to give their time.
More Than An Experience
Volunteering is about so much more than giving back to your community – it’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop valuable skills that can support your future career.
In this video, we’re featuring Nathan, one of our dedicated volunteers who helps welcome visitors at our Head Office reception. Through volunteering, Nathan has strengthened his communication and customer service skills, and built experience in a professional environment.
Whether you’re looking to develop workplace skills, boost your CV, meet new people, or explore new opportunities, volunteering can open doors you never expected.
Powered By Kindness
Every day, our volunteers help keep this much-loved community resource running smoothly. Whether they’re sorting donations, stocking shelves, welcoming visitors or helping people find what they need, their dedication makes a real and lasting difference to so many lives.
The Fridge of Free Stuff is about much more than sharing food and household essentials. It’s about reducing waste, bringing people together and creating a stronger, more connected community. None of this would be possible without our volunteers, whose kindness is at the heart of everything we do.
This Volunteers’ Week, we want to say a huge thank you to every volunteer who has helped make the Fridge of Free Stuff such a success. Your generosity, commitment and community spirit inspire us all, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.
Something For Everyone
Tucked away in the heart of Weston-super-Mare, the Old Town Quarry is one of the town’s hidden gems. Surrounded by nature and rich in history, it’s a peaceful space where creativity, community and wellbeing come together. Home to talented local artists, the welcoming Stone & Canvas Café and the vibrant Artspace, the quarry offers visitors a chance to relax, explore and be inspired.
For those looking to volunteer in a quieter, more tranquil environment, the quarry provides a unique opportunity to get involved while enjoying the beauty of this remarkable setting. Our volunteers play a vital role in helping visitors feel welcome and ensuring the site continues to thrive.
Whether you’re greeting visitors with a smile or helping behind the counter at the shop, every volunteer contributes to making the Old Town Quarry a welcoming and inspiring place for all.
Why They Stay
Volunteering is about so much more than giving your time. For many of our volunteers, it’s about finding purpose, building friendships, learning new skills and being part of something bigger than themselves. It’s about making a difference in the lives of others while gaining so much in return.
In this special video, we hear from volunteers who have dedicated years to supporting their community. They share what volunteering means to them and the reasons they continue to give their time, energy and kindness year after year.
Their stories remind us that volunteering isn’t just about the impact you make on others – it’s also about the connections you build, the confidence you gain and the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a community that cares.
This Is Community
From our community spaces and projects to the countless acts of kindness that happen behind the scenes every day, our volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Their dedication, compassion and commitment help us reach more people, create stronger connections and make a real difference across Weston-super-Mare.
If you’ve been inspired by the stories you’ve seen this week and would like to make a difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you. There are a variety of volunteering opportunities available across our services and projects, and there’s a role to suit everyone.
