We’re thrilled to announce that the Old Town Quarry project has been granted an extension from the Community Ownership Fund – the project will now run until 1st July 2025. This vital support enables us to continue progressing with the ambitious plans to transform the Quarry into a vibrant community space.

There has been a lot of activity on the Old Town Quarry project in the past few weeks. As well as securing an extension to the project from the Community Ownership Fund, we also held another Quarry meeting on Wednesday 27th November at Weston Museum.

This meeting was set up to focus on the four key Opportunities for the Quarry project that emerged from our analysis of all of the information collected from the Quarry Conversations sessions held over the summer. There were four Focus Groups that discussed:

  • Environmental conservation and wildlife protection
  • Arts and culture
  • Educational and learning opportunities
  • Balanced event programming

We also asked the Focus Groups to ensure they considered the four cross-cutting Themes that have emerged as important factors from our Quarry Conversations. These are:

    • Wellbeing, health, fitness
    • Heritage, history, conservation
    • Community engagement and accessibility
    • Developing a sustainable business model

The objective was for attendees to produce Plans of what community-focused activities and events they are able to provide at the Quarry site once it reopens next summer 2025.

We had a very positive and informative set of discussions within each of the Focus Groups, and a number of fantastic Plans were produced. These are being reviewed currently, so watch this space for further information and next step with regard to the community programme at the Old Town Quarry site in 2025.

Our next meeting will take place on January 28th, 2025 at the Weston Museum.
