Weston-super-Mare’s twinning with Hildesheim, Germany, goes way beyond tradition. It’s been built upon over many years of true friendship and shared experiences.
This year, we were delighted to welcome three students from Hildesheim, offering them a chance to immerse themselves in our community while gaining valuable professional experience.
Lasse’s Journey
Arriving in January, Lasse spent a month with Weston-super-Mare Town Council. He worked with our Communications, Civic, and Grounds teams, as well as at Weston Museum, learning about public engagement, event planning, local heritage, and environmental management. His placement continued with North Somerset Council, further expanding his understanding of local government.
Welcoming Max and Mattas
In February, Max and Mattas joined us for two weeks, contributing to Weston Museum and getting to work the Grounds Team and the work that they’ve been doing on improving the look and appearance of the town. Their enthusiasm and hard work were greatly appreciated, and they fully embraced the opportunity to connect with our town, its people and our local communities.
Beyond their placements, all three students explored Weston-super-Mare and had the honour of meeting the Town Mayor, Cllr Crockford-Hawley, highlighting the importance of international friendships.
This exchange has been a fantastic experience, reinforcing our strong bond with Hildesheim.
We look forward to more visits and shared opportunities in the future.
