Weston-super-Mare Town Council is thrilled to announce the launch of the Weston Independent Market, a brand-new weekly event starting Wednesday 9th April 2025 at the Italian Gardens, right in the heart of the town centre. The Weston Independent Market will take place every Wednesday, unless weather conditions require a change of day.
We are introducing a new weekly market as part of Weston-super-Mare Town Council’s strategic plan, which aligns with the ten-year Super Weston Placemaking Strategy – a vision shaped through engagement with thousands of local residents, where the wish for a permanent weekly market was a top priority. This Council-led initiative will bring fresh energy into the town centre, support local traders, attract visitors, and help boost the local economy.
Managed and delivered by By Invitation Events, a well-respected curatorship led by Michelle Beck, the market will host a range of local independent traders, artisan producers, and creatives. With a strong track record of delivering successful markets in Bridgwater, Taunton, and at high-profile events such as the Bournemouth and Torbay Air Shows, By Invitation Events is known for its commitment to sustainability, community, and quality.
Michelle Beck shared her enthusiasm for the new venture, saying:
“We’re so excited to be launching the very first Weston Independent Market on Wednesday 9th April. I’ve seen first-hand how markets can completely transform a town, not just economically, but in terms of spirit and connection. This new market in Weston is built on a real passion for community and local business. It’s about giving independent traders a platform to grow, and bringing more people into Weston to experience everything this brilliant town has to offer. Markets breathe life into high streets, and we believe Weston is more than ready for it.”
The opening of the Weston Independent Market will be marked by a special event on Wednesday 9th April, with the Mayor of Weston-super-Mare in attendance to officially launch the market.
Councillor Simon Harrison-Morse, Weston-super-Mare Town Council’s Chair of the Amenities, Culture and Leisure Committee, commented:
“The Weekly Independent Market at the Italian Gardens is a fantastic opportunity to revitalise our high street, support local traders, and bring new energy into the heart of Weston-super-Mare. We’re excited to welcome both residents and visitors to enjoy the unique stalls and vibrant atmosphere each week – this market will be a great boost for our local economy and community spirit.”
The market will take place in the Town Square and Italian Gardens, which are managed by North Somerset Council. Weston-super-Mare Town Council has been working closely with North Somerset Council to develop a regular market in the town.
Councillor Mark Canniford, North Somerset Council’s executive member responsible for high street and town centre renewal, added:
“We know that there’s appetite for a permanent regular market in Weston, so I’m delighted to see this come to fruition. The market was one of the top three priorities from the Weston Placemaking Strategy consultation with residents and businesses. It will showcase the many high quality and award-winning products that are made here in North Somerset – from artisan business selling locally to those who export worldwide.
“Shopping locally makes a huge difference to local businesses and the town’s economy, and a weekly market will provide people with a regular opportunity to support businesses local to them. I hope people will get to know their producers and hear about the hard work, love and passion that goes into creating these fantastic food, drink and creative products right on our doorstep.”
With a dedicated events team behind the scenes – including market stewards, traffic management, social media and marketing professionals – the Weston Independent Market promises to be a well-organised and lively addition to the town centre.
More details on traders and market days will be released on social media.
